One advantage of Sub-D modeling is it's ability to 'design while you go' which is more difficult than more CAD like programs (other than purely parametric).ARC+ For over 30 years develops software solutions serving architects, designers and building professionals.ĪRC + offers architects and other building professionals a simple and ergonomic way to move from idea to reality while respecting everyone creative spirit, “The Freedom of Design.” With an interactive and efficient 2D / 3D modeller it is possible to model any geometry or to use the existing architectural modules for creating stairs, walls, windows etc… ARC + does not stop there as it offers a range of fully integrated add-ons. He's modeled and rendered each of these robots in a single day. Here's a guy who is a master using SoftImage. I've heard good things about Rhino and have friends in Japan who use it exclusively with 3D printing, even though it's a surface modeler.
This happened somewhere around 87 I think.īack then, one could really KNOW all the 3D apps available. I remember writing a simple animation engine for NASA and Super3D in Hypercard where we did 3D egress/ingress simulations showing how space station crew would board a crew emergency return vehicle (CERV- basically a lifeboat for the space station).

Also on the Mac was Super3D which was the first animatable display list 3D processor. There were some more serious ones on the Amiga, among them Sculpt3D which was the first ray tracer I remember seeing. On the Mac the first 3D app I can remember was (believe it or not) a solid modeler called Eas圓D which allowed for boolean addition, subtraction and intersections of basic shapes.

There might have been another one or two pc programs which could do some wireframing 3D, but not much. On the PC, the big one was Cubicomp- and they had their own framebuffer which could render in 256 colors PHONG shaded! Wow (really it was Wow back then!). Soon thereafter there were a very small smattering of 3D programs. 30 years? That would mean you were using CAD software in 1984? I'm curious what versions you may have been using? I believe AutoCad may have just came out around then.
